Social behavior modifies the way in which animals live together and communicate. Formation of flocks of birds or schools of fish demonstrate how hundreds or even thousands of individuals can fly or swim with precision. Herd mammals synchronize activities so that feeding and resting are done together. Most predators live solitary lives, whereas social insects may be formed into castes, with different individuals morphologically adapted for different tasks.
